Day 6 – I Can See Clearly Now

Day 6 - I Can See Clearly NowAfter staying up late last night for no good reason, I slept in until 8 on Saturday and awoke to a simply gorgeous day. The rain we had in the previous week cleaned the air and the sky was the color of blue you seldom see in the city.

For breakfast I predictably had oatmeal with chopped nuts and dice fruit and washed that down with a low sodium V8.

Cheryl and I took Harley for a wonderful 2 hour walk that the three of us enjoyed enormously. I mentioned to Cheryl that one thing I have become aware of is that over the last couple of days I have started paying more attention to people. I always try to pay attention to family, friends and clients, but I often don’t pay much attention to the people you run into in everyday life. Not only did I find myself looking them in the eye, remembering names what they looked like, but I just somehow feel a bit better connected to humanity.

I’ve also noticed that I’m listening and engaging with my clients better at work. Did going Vegan cause this? Who knows, but it seems like there is a correlation.

After we got back home from the walk I still felt energetic so I went for a bike ride and rode 22.5 miles. You couldn’t have asked for a better day for a bike ride, but my allergies flared up big time and a constantly runny nose stole some of the joy from the bike ride. But, when I wasn’t blowing my nose I enjoyed the ride and the beautiful day immensely.

After getting home I took some pictures of Ally and Connor before they left to go out to dinner before the big Homecoming dance. They are a very photogenic pair so I had some wonderful shots in no time. I then devoured a peanut butter sandwich to give my body some protein after the day’s physical activity.

Later for dinner, Cheryl pan fried some Boca Burgers, with Rudi’s organic wheat hamburger buns. I had mine with mustard, lettuce, tomato and onion. I ran to Red Robin to pick up an take out order of their tasty french fries to compliment our burgers. Much to my amazement, Shane, the man who took my order on the phone, would not let me pay for my take out order. He simply asked that I come back to see them another time for dinner. Talk about building good will! We will definitely go there for dinner, particularly since we discovered that you can get Boca burgers at Red Robin. I believe you have to ask for the Boca burgers as a substitute for the Garden Burgers. Cheryl and I each had a glass of red wine with our Boca (soy) burgers and french fries. It was awesome!

Hope I don’t sound like a schill for Boca or Red Robin. I’m not, I just like Boca Burgers and fries! :-) I do want to let people know what I like, as I think my food cravings and desires are pretty much typical “All American.”

One thing I became aware of tonight is that I now feel more full after eating less food. I first noticed it last night, but I attributed that stuffed feeling to the Indian food. However, last night I also felt extremely full after dinner. I must say I am amazed, as I was afraid that by cutting all meat and dairy from my diet that I would always be hungry and never satisfied. Quite the contrary, I now feel more full and satisfied after eating less food now. Amazing and that can only be good. Particularly for me since I need to shed quite a bit of weight to be at a healthy weight.

The only negative effects that I’ve felt so far as I have felt a bit gassy and bloated at times. This may have to do with my body freaking out a bit with the change in diet and adjusting to larger quantities of fruits, veges and soy. Nothing terrible, but I want this blog to be accurate for anyone else thinking of switching to a Vegan diet.

I think the free fries was the Universe’s way of rewarding you for making a positive lifestyle change!

I think anyone that has been on a typical American diet can expect a few mild symptoms like the bloating and gassy feeling for a little while because you body is detoxing. And anyone that has eaten the typical American diet all of their life (which is most of us) is full of toxins. The symptoms should subside in time.

  • Mark: You're very welcome and let me know what you think. I definately prefer this to the soy cheese. It is pretty strong so a little bit goes a long way
