Today was yet another gorgeous fall day with blue skies and a light breeze. I grabbed a quick bowl of the usual oatmeal and left for a couple of meetings.
Happily both meetings went faster than I expected so I was able to come home at 11am and Cheryl and I took a nice walk to the park with Harley. Harley was enjoying running in the grass and listening to the leaves crunch under his paws. He was so full of joy it was fun to see!
After the short walk I grabbed a banana and headed back to the office where for lunch I ate (again) some of Falafel King’s Roasted Hatch Green Chili Hummus one whole wheat toast. It was so good and it dawned on me that this would be a truly outstanding dip to go with chips while watching the Broncos on Monday night football.
It was a tough call as I could have made a nice “Tofurkey” sandwich at home, but I think the tofurkey has a longer shelf life than the hummus. Also, I enjoyed the hummus so much yesterday that it demanded an encore.
In fact, I was so impressed with the hummus that I suggested we try dinner at a restuarant owned by the company that makes the hummus, Falafel King. Cheryl had seen Falafel King before and had wanted to try it, so off we went.
We went to their funky Denver location on Colorado Blvd, near 8th Avenue. The small Mediterranean quick serve restaurant is informal and relaxed. The counter service was friendly, fast and patient with us as we considered the vegan options they had.
We both opted for the Falafel Combo meal which comes with 6 falafel balls, a large portion of Hummus and some wonderful fresh baked wheat pita bread. There is a choice of 2 side dishes and it was served with scrumptious fresh Mediterranean mixed green salad.
Neither of us had ever had a falafel ball and they were awesome. It is sort of a vegan equivalent of a meatball. I dipped mine in the tasty Fire Roasted Red Sweet Pepper Hummus. Yum!
After the horrible salad we had Wednesday night at the Macaroni Grill in Greenwood Village, it was refreshing to eat a GOOD salad with all FRESH ingredients.
If you want fine dining Falafel King isn’t the right spot. But, if you want fresh reasonably priced food that you don’t have to wait on, then check out Falafel King. Falafel King also has a restaurant in Boulder and 2 in downtown Denver’s Sixteenth Street Mall area.
You can also buy Falafel King’s hummus, awesome fresh pita bread and falafel balls at Whole Foods and Vitamin Cottage. It is nice to find a company that takes such obvious pride in their food, whether you buy it at a retail store or prepared fresh at one of their restaurants. I hope the company enjoys much success!
